Automatic NDSS upgrade to FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus

From 1 July 2026, FreeStyle Libre 2 sensors will no longer be available via the NDSS. If you currently access Libre 2 sensors via the NDSS subsidy, you will be automatically upgraded to FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus.

Libre 2 users’ NDSS access will automatically upgrade to Libre 2 Plus, with no action required. From 1 July 2026, you can order and collect your new Libre 2 Plus sensors from your usual NDSS Access Point. The co-payment per Libre 2 Plus sensor is $17.90.

 

Ready to use

Libre 2 Plus sensors remain compatible with the FreeStyle LibreLink12 app, LibreLinkUp21 app and the FreeStyle Libre 2 reader. There are no changes to sensor application or usage.

  • Why is the FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor being discontinued in Australia?

    The new-generation FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus sensor launched in Australia in April 2025, featuring enhanced features including extended 15-day wear time and improved accuracy. With the availability of this next-generation technology, the decision has been made to discontinue the previous-generation FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor in Australia.

  • When will the FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor be discontinued in Australia?

    FreeStyle Libre 2 sensors are no longer available for purchase via FreeStyleLibre.com.au.

    From 1 July 2026, FreeStyle Libre 2 sensors will no longer be available via the NDSS.

    Customers currently accessing Libre 2 sensors through the NDSS will be automatically transitioned to the FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus sensor by 30 June 2026.

    No action is required to complete this transition. Customers can continue ordering through their usual NDSS Access Point, and no healthcare professional visit is required.

    There are currently no plans to discontinue the FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus sensor or FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus sensor in Australia.

  • I am currently accessing FreeStyle Libre 2 sensors via the NDSS subsidy. How do I upgrade my NDSS access to FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus sensors?

    No action is required. All NDSS users of FreeStyle Libre 2 will be automatically upgraded to FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus by 30 June 2026.

    Once transitioned, customers can continue to order and collect their sensors from their usual NDSS Access Point.

  • I’m currently accessing FreeStyle Libre 2 sensors via the NDSS subsidy. Do I need to see a healthcare professional to upgrade?

    No. A healthcare professional visit is not required for this transition. The upgrade to FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus will occur automatically for eligible NDSS users.

  • How much is the NDSS co-payment for FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus sensors?

    The co-payment per FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus sensor is $17.90.

  • Why is the NDSS co-payment different to FreeStyle Libre 2?

    The NDSS co-payment for FreeStyle Libre 2 was $16.70 per sensor, compared to $17.90 for FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus. This reflects the longer wear duration (15 days vs. 14 days). When considered on a cost-per-day basis, the two systems are equivalent, resulting in a similar overall monthly cost.

  • I have spare FreeStyle Libre 2 sensors. Will they still work?

    Yes, FreeStyle Libre 2 sensors will still work and remain compatible with the FreeStyle LibreLink app and the FreeStyle Libre 2 reader.

    Always check the sensor expiry date before use.
