Important update for our valued FreeStyle Libre customers
Thank you for your ongoing support of FreeStyle Libre in Australia.
At Abbott, it is our constant endeavour to bring the most up-to-date technology to best serve our customers and users.
We are informing our customers that the FreeStyle Libre system will be replaced by the new-generation FreeStyle Libre 2 system on 30 May, 2022*. FreeStyle Libre 2 has been available in Australia since August 2021.
The FreeStyle Libre 2 system retains all the easy-to-use features of the FreeStyle Libre, with the additional benefit of optional glucose alarms and improved accuracy. For customers ordering sensors from our website, there is no price difference when you switch to the FreeStyle Libre 2 system.
Many Australian customers have already upgraded to the FreeStyle Libre 2 system.
To assist with upgrading the remaining FreeStyle Libre users to the FreeStyle Libre 2 system, Abbott is communicating directly with customers.

I currently use my FreeStyle Libre reader with my FreeStyle Libre sensor. How do I upgrade to a FreeStyle Libre 2 reader?
Your FreeStyle Libre reader will not read FreeStyle Libre 2 sensors. We recommend using the FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor with the FreeStyle LibreLink app as it enables the option of sharing glucose data and alarms in real-time with designated family and friends via the LibreLinkUp app. Users can also experience the ease of sharing of glucose reports and data with healthcare professionals via LibreView.

If you are unable to use the FreeStyle LibreLink app, eligible users can request a complimentary upgrade to the FreeStyle Libre 2 reader here and follow the instructions on the page.
I am currently on the NDSS Subsidy for FreeStyle Libre (or another CGM device). How do I upgrade to FreeStyle Libre 2?
Eligible NDSS registrants with subsidised CGM access can upgrade to FreeStyle Libre 2 from another subsidised CGM device or from FreeStyle Libre. Your healthcare professional will be able to submit a switch form on your behalf to the NDSS.

I noticed that the FreeStyle Libre reader isn’t available for purchase on your website. Can I still purchase the FreeStyle Libre reader?
FreeStyle Libre readers are no longer available for purchase in Australia. We recommend using the FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor with the FreeStyle LibreLink app as it enables the option of sharing glucose data and alarms in real-time with any designated family and friends via the LibreLinkUp app. Users can also experience the ease of sharing of glucose reports and data with healthcare professionals via LibreView.
